HIGH GEAR

i

By Chris Robinson WAR IN WARREN

There is a "war" going on in the Warren-Youngstown area. With the opening of the Camel Lot Complex II in Warren, competition has intensified between it and two other area bars, The Outpost (Warren near the Turnpike) and The Troubadour Lounge (Youngstown).

The new Camel Lot which is located at 532 South St. (Rt. 422) opened for business September 17. Since he opened, owner Joe Wicks, has already added a light show and disco system. By December 1, he plans to have

full food service and be open 24 hours a day on weekends. Gogo boys are scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday nights, disco Wednesday through Sunday and Happy Hour each day

from 10 A.M. to 7 P.M.

CHANGES

AND NEW SHOWS ARE COMING TO TOWN In the near future three Cleveland bars will be beginning or expanding their show offerings. Godmother's II opens its stage with a presentation of "Come See About Me" featuring Ken their bartender on Saturday

Nov. 20.

Left, Camel Lot Complex II owner Joe Wicks and guest, Ed, owner of Troubadour Lounge in Youngstown.

While there is competition between the three bars, there is still cooperation. You'll find coming events posted in competing bars, and owners come and wish other owners well at special events.

At the Outpost Don brought several shows during October with more planned for the near future. The Saltwater Tuffies from the Saratoga Club in Atlantic City received such a favorable reaction from the audience that they have been invited back for a return engagement on December 10 and 11. Meanwhile the high energy disco goes on.

Also coming up at the Outpost is an all night extravaganza on December 4 for the benefit of St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Check out the ad in this issue for further details.

The look of the Troubadour has changed and is beginning to take on the look of an art gallery. The dance floor has been brightened with the addition of black and white murals. The front of the bar has also taken on a brighter look with the addition of paintings by several local artists.

The Troubadour has also begun presenting shows. To help the production of these shows, they have installed a special lighting system.

J.J.'s will present a show by McQueen and Saxton on Sunday November 21.

By Thanksgiving weekend or December 1, the Zanzibar will premier their Breakfast Show. Showtime will be slated for 3 A.M. Saturday and Sunday mornings (after Friday and Saturday night revelry). A full breakfast buffet will also be available.

THEY'RE

REALLY OPEN After a struggle of almost nine months, the Gentlemen's Pub finally had their grand opening. It was a show given by Ms. D. and her Lavender Ladies and Gentlemen as a benefit for MCC/Akron. The show featured a production number complete with Las Vegas style costumes and one of the most original settings of The Manhattan.

Transfer's "Operator" that you

will

ever see.

An emotional

"high" for the evening came when the cast invited their mothers onto the stage and gave each some roses.

The next show, Winter Wonderland is planned for Dec. 18 and will feature many of the Sesame Street characters that you know and love.

RETREAT/INSIDE...OUT RICHARDS...IN

The bar scene in Mansfield has undergone a drastic change over the past two weeks. Word has reached us that the Retreat closed November 5 and that the Inside/Outside has gone straight.

To fill the void, Richard's Night Club opened October 27. Located at 15 E. Fifth Street, formerly Hugo's, the nightclub features a large canopy over the bar and macrame hangings throughout. There is a 300 square foot dance floor which is soon to be equipped for disco music. It is lighted by not one, but three mirrored balls and flashing stiokes.

DAYTON-Jack and Ken, the new owners of the Mail Boxx have done a bit of remodeling. The piano bar and game room have been switched. The reason for the switch was to provide more room for the piano bar and to convert the coat room into a full service bar. The Mail Boxx, by the way, honors both Bank Americard and Master Charge.

CLEVELAND--The Petrarca at 2216 Petrarca just off Fairhill and south of Cedar has reopened. Doris has returned as bartender and there is still food. available for hungry customers on weekends.

CINCINNATI -Badlands has brightened its dance floor for new D.J. Phil changing from black to maroon and gold. For those interested, they've also added a new floor to the men's

room.

AKRON-After being closed for four days, the Hayloft reopened October 1 under new management. Otherwise there are no changes. For their first big "fling" Helen is planning an Anniversary party on Nov. 20.

PIQUA--Disco dancing with a light show has been added to the schedule at the Water Main...
